CDC data show U.S. overdose deaths still falling, down 11.5 percent in a year
The newest provisional CDC counts estimate 66,478 overdose deaths in the 12 months ending in May 2026, continuing a decline driven largely by fewer deaths involving fentanyl and other synthetic opioids.
